Designing & Pattern Prep
- Waterproof sticker paper – For patterns, so they don't slide off when grinding.
- Permanent Markers – Black & White, so they are visible on dark glass.
- Scissors – Basic, for cutting printed templates
- Cricut Explore Air 2 - Saves a ton of time by cutting out your templates perfectly for you.
Glass Cutting
- Oil-fed glass cutter – For cutting glass.
- Pistol-grip Glass Cutter – Easier to use when starting.
- Cutting oil – Some cutters include it
- Running pliers – To break your scored glass

Glass Grinding
- Glass grinder – For smoothing and fitting edges
- Grinder bit – Usually 5/8"
- Safety goggles – Crucial for grinding and cutting
- Splash shield – Optional but helpful
Foiling
- Copper foil tape – For most glass you will encounter (recommended)
- Silver-backed foil – Offers a metallic look or contrast line
- Black-backed foil – Great for darker borders and contrast
- Foil burnishing tool (fid) – Plastic or wooden stick
- Alcohol wipes or cleaner – To prep glass before foiling (soap works too)
Soldering
- 60W soldering iron – Temperature control is a bonus
- 60/40 solder – Most commonly used for stained glass
- Liquid or gel flux – Pick one that’s non-corrosive
- Tip Tinner – Cleans oxidation and prolongs tip life
Hanging Hardware
- Hanging rings or loops – Attach with solder
- Chain or Transparent wire – To hang in windows
- Suction cups with hooks – For glass under ~500g
Cleaning & Finishing
- Glass cleaner – Ammonia-free preferred
- Finishing compound/wax – Helps protect solder lines
- Black patina – For contrast or moodier look
- Copper patina – Gives a warm copper finish
Optional Safety
- Fume absorber fan – For indoor soldering
- Heat-resistant work mat – Protects surfaces
- Disposable gloves – Especially when handling patina
Organization & Storage
- Plastic drawer organizer – For tools, foil, and small bits
- Label maker or sticky labels – For foil widths, flux types, etc.
